He will hold the position for one year from the current month.
Dr Chowdhury has been with the prestigious think-tank from 2009, initially as Senior Research Fellow, and then as Principal Research Fellow, a position he has been holding since 2013.
During his time at ISAS, he has authored numerous articles and a number of books on international relations and global multilateral institutions. He has also lectured and conducted seminars in universities and think -tanks around the world.
Dr Iftekhar Chowdhury was the Foreign Advisor to a caretaker government in Bangladesh. Before that, he had served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva and New York. He had also served as Special Advisor to Secretary General Rubens Ricupero of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Dr Chowhdury has an MA and PhD in International Relations from the Australian National University. He had stood first in First Class in Honours in Political Science at the Dhaka University.
He also functions as the honorary President of the Cosmos Foundation. In his capacity, he has been conducting and chairing a number of significant academic events in Dhaka.
