Munshiganj, Oct 8 (UNB)- Ferry services on Shimulia-Kathalbari route resumed on Tuesday morning after 12 hours of suspension due to strong current in the Padma River.
Nasir Ahmed Chowdhury, general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Shimulia ferry ghat, said the ferry services resumed at 9 am which was suspended at 8 pm on Monday due to the strong current.
Dredging of silted-up channels of both sides are going on to restore navigability of the river for smooth movement of water vessels, he added.
Aminul Islam, in charge of Mawa River Police Outpost, said more than 250 vehicles, including goods-laden trucks and passenger buses, were seen stranded on both sides of the river.
