The decision was made at an emergency meeting of the university with its Vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari in the chair, said sources at IU registrar office on Tuesday.
The vice-chancellor issued the suspension orders against Umar Ali, assistant registrar of IU Law and Shariyah Faculty and Munshi Tariqul Islam, an employee of transport section of the university, after getting a written complaint from a job seeker, said IU Acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif.
Earlier, a three member probe body led by Professor M Rezwanul Islam of Biotechnology and Genetics Engineering department was formed to look into the matter, he added.
The university authorities asked the body to submit its reports as early as possible, the registrar said.
The vice-chancellor, however, told UNB that legal steps would be taken against them after receiving the investigation reports from the body.
According to the written complaint, Umar and Tariqul took Tk 11,40,000 from Mamunur Rashid, a resident of Rajshahi district, luring him to be appointed as a hardware and network technician into the university. The duo took the money from Mamun using Umar’s Agrani Bank Account.
Later, the university authorities primarily investigated Umar’s Agrani Bank Account and found their involvement.
