The deceased was identified as Ali Akbar, son of late Asad Ullah of the area.
Victim’s son Towhid Islam said his father had been at loggerheads with Nuru Miah of the village over the ownership of a piece of land.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Raipur Police Station AKM Azizur Rahman Miah said when Nuru and his sons went to pluck green coconut from a tree on the disputed land in the morning, Akbar tried to resist them, leading to an altercation between them.
At one stage, Nuru and his sons Jasim, Touhir and Jewel hacked Akbar indiscriminately, leaving him severely injured.
The injured was first taken to the upazila health complex where doctors referred him to Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College Noakhali, the OC said. He, however, died on the way to the hospital.
The body was sent to morgue for autopsy, he added.
