They made the call at a rally arranged by Private Teachers’ Training College Teachers’ Samiti at Jatiya Press Club.
Teachers and employees of educational institution enlisted under the MPO scheme get basic salaries from the government.
“Achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education won’t be possible unless teachers are properly trained,” said Muhammad Nazrul Islam, president of the organisation.
He said there is no alternative to trained teachers to ensure quality education. “Such an important sector has been overlooked by the government for the past 27 years,” he said.
Currently 71 non-government TT colleges are working to provide Bachelor of Education degree to secondary level teachers under the National University similar to 14 government TT colleges.
“The teachers we’re training are included in the MPO scheme but we aren’t,” Nazrul Islam added. “It’s unfortunate.”
The organisation put forth five demands including enlisting teachers and employees of non-government TT colleges under MPO scheme; allowing teachers to be trained abroad; ensuring IT facilities at each TT colleges; allotting land for each TT college and provide housing facilities to teachers and employees of TT colleges.
