The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman came up with the directives.
The HC also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why directives should not be given to provide Tk 50 lakh as compensation to the family members of Zaima.
Barrister Anisul Hasan and Advocate Shahinuzzaman Shaheen stood for the petitioner while deputy attorney general Tushar Kanti Roy represented the state.
Secretary to the Shipping Ministry, Chairman of Bangladesh Inland and Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Director of the Department of Shipping, Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor, deputy commissioner of Narayanganj district, owner of MV ‘Yaad’ Mamunur Rashid were made respondent to the rule which is returnable in four weeks.
Barrister Anisul Hasan drew the attention of the court after attaching a report published in a national daily over the current condition of the girl.
According to the report published on March 22, 2018, launch owner Mamunur Rashid and his associates are threatening Zaima Newaz’s family to withdraw the case filed against the launch owner.
Nazmun Nahar, mother of victim Zaima, filed a case with Amtoli Police Station in Barguna upazila in this connection.
As per the case statement, six-year-old girl Zaima Newaz Jisa, (now 8-years-old), daughter of Jamal Gazi of Barguna district, along with her family went to the Fatullah Launch Ghat for going to her district on December 29, 2017..
At one stage, the girl’s right feet got stuck in between a launch in the ghat after being hit by a launch named ‘MV Yaad’, leaving her feet severed in the accident.
Later, she was taken to a local hospital and received treatment there.
On February 13, 2018, victim’s father Jamal Gazi filed a case with Keraniganj Police Station against six people including the owner of the launch.
Ain O Salish Kendra filed a petition seeking compensation for her on October 24 this year.
