Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin said this in his remarks while attending a pillow and television distribution programme as chief guest at Central Jail-2.
The IG (Prisons) said so far prisoners had been using one of their blankets as pillows.
The regular breakfast menu of prisoners will also be changed soon; instead of old dry bread and molasses, different food items including vegetables will be arranged for their breakfast, he said.
“As per Prime Minister’s order already the new budget for breakfast has been sent to the ministry for financial allocation, hopefully soon it will be approved and implemented,” he said.
“The prisons of the country have been operating following the British period law. Many things have to be included to turn the prisons into rehabilitation centers and for that some changes need to be made in the law. For that the draft of a new policy and law has already been written, it will be implemented after approval of the parliament,” Iftekharuddin added.
