The Reporters for Bangladeshi Migrants (RBM) on Saturday demanded immediate release of journalist Selim Akash who has been arrested recently in Jordan after writing a report on the condition of overseas Bangladeshis.
RBM President Firoz Manna and General Secretary Masudul Haque made the demand in a press release and drew the attention of the Ministers of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and the Foreign Ministry.
Akash wrote an article on Jagoonews24.com titled “Coronavirus: 30,000 overseas Bangladeshis are in food crisis in Jordan”.
He was arrested several days later.
His Family members claimed that the report made a number of staffers at Bangladesh Embassy angry that finally led to the arrest.
RBM also demanded punishment for those who plotted his arrest.
