In a dramatic departure from conventional political resignations, KM Rezaul Faiz Reza, convenor of Baghda union (under Barishal district’s Agailjhara upazila) unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), resigned from the party after symbolically bathing in milk at his home on Friday.
The event, captured on video and shared on social media, underscores his denunciation of the party’s practices.
Before his unconventional resigning, Reza and Lavlu Bhatti, joint convenor of the same unit, held a press conference at the Agailjhara Press Club.
At the press conference, they announced their resignation from both their party posts and primary memberships, signaling a complete break from their political affiliations with BNP.
During the milk bath, which Reza described as an “act of purification”, he expressed his disenchantment with the party’s operations. “I was with a party for many years. It's a business party, not a political one,” Reza stated. “Those involved with BNP, do politics for business, for themselves, and for individual gains. So, I freed myself from the party.”
The resignations of Reza and Bhatti come after their appointments were confirmed on August 26 last year by upazila BNP’s Convenor Kabir Hossain Talukder and Member Secretary Molla Bashir Ahmed Panna, who endorsed a 52-member convening committee.
