“Policewomen in Bangladesh are doing great in detecting and preventing crimes, managing traffic, administration and training. Like women police members, many women are working in almost all of our government offices. I think one of the secrets of our development is the widespread participation of our women in every economic activity,” he said.
The minister was addressing the opening session of the Women Leadership Institute Training Programme jointly organised by Bangladesh Police and International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program of the US Department of Justice at the Police Staff College in Mirpur of the city.
Praising the activities of policewomen, he said many of them are seen outshining their male counterparts. “I take pride in Bangladesh being the highest female police contributing country to the UN peacekeeping missions,” he added.
“We must put in place adequate space for men and women to work in unison. Keep in mind that coming together is the beginning, keeping together is the progress and working together is the success,” Asaduzzaman said.
He urged the participants to actively engage in the training programme for the best outcome and sharing the learning when they return to their respective workplaces so that positive effect could be multiplied.
Among others, Principle Deputy Director of US DOJ/ICITAP Headquarters of Washington Gary Bullard, US Embassy’s Deputy Mission Chief in Dhaka Jo Anne Wagner, IGP Dr Javed Patwary and President of Bangladesh Women Police Network Additional DIG Amena Begum addressed the programme chaired by Rector of the Police Staff College Sk Md Maruf Hasan.
A total of 39 female police members, including two from Indonesia, one from the USA and six from Pakistan, are taking part in the five-day training programme.
