Bangladesh’s previous highest score in T20I against West Indies was 184 in Lauderhill, Florida.
This was also the highest T20I total at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The previous highest T20I total in Mirpur was 204 which was struck by New Zealand back in 2013.
The Tigers started the innings with a bang as they scored 61 in the power play losing the wicket of Tamim Iqbal who added 15 on the board. Tamim failed to utilise a chance that he got while being dropped on 13 at the cover when Fabian Allen missed an easy catch.
Despite the departure of Tamim, Bangladesh managed 99 at the end of 10 overs as Litond Das played a superb knock. The right-handed opener hit his second T20I fifty with 26 balls featuring six fours and four sixes to his credit. He was accompanied perfectly by Soumya Sarkar.
In the second wicket stand, Liton and Soumya added 68 runs off 43 balls which gave Bangladesh an edge to climb to a high score.
Soumya, the left-handed top-order batsman, fell to a stunning grab of Carlson Brathwaite. The Caribbean captain took the catch on a second attempt at the cover. Soumya scored 32 off 22 balls before being dismissed by Sheldon Cottrell who had struck four wickets in the first match.
Sheldon shattered the stumps of Liton in the same over when the batsman backed to cut but failed to connect the ball correctly. Liton’s superb knock came to an end after he scored 60 off 34 balls.
Bangladesh lost the third wicket when Mushfiqur Rahim went for a big shot but got caught in the boundary area. Bangladesh lost three wickets in two consecutive overs. But Mahmudullah Riayd made the spectators forget that mini collapse with three back-to-back fours off Sheldon Cottrell.
In the fourth wicket stand, Shakib and Mahmudullah added 91 runs in seven overs. Both of them remained unbeaten on 42 and 43 off 26 and 21 balls respectively.
Sheldon Cottrell took two wickets for the touring side, and Oshane Thomas and Fabian Allen took one wicket each.
Bangladesh lost the series opener in Sylhet. So they have no alternative but to win the game to remain alive in the series. The last match of the series will take place at the same venue on December 22.
