The Tigers will face former world champion India in their next match on July 2 and must win this game to keep their semifinals hope alive.
Shakib Al Hasan, the top performer in this World Cup, said a win against India will be very tough for Bangladesh.
The left-handed all-rounder scored 476 runs in six matches and took 10 wickets. He is the only cricketer to achieve the double of scoring 400-plus runs and take 10-plus wickets in a single edition of the World Cup.
“We believe that we can play well in the next two games and get results in our favour. But it’ll be tough for us,” Shakib told the media after the game against Afghanistan.
He hit a fifty and took five wickets in that match.
“That’s all we can do at this moment. Besides winning the next two games, we have to look at the other results. We’ve to make sure that we play our best cricket,” he said.
Bangladesh would have been in a better position had they won against New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Tigers lost to New Zealand by two wickets while the game against Sri Lanka was washed out due to rain.
Bangladesh defeated India in the 2007 World Cup.
“The memory is good as well as the experience. We have to play our best possible cricket to win against India. They’ve some world-class players who can turn things around. We’ve to be at our best and prove that we’re capable enough,” Shakib said.
