At the end of the play of day 4, Bangladesh is trailing by 141 with seven wickets in hand.
Bangladesh ended up their first innings of the ongoing Test with 211 all-out. New Zealand replied with 432/6 declared. Ross Taylor, the right-handed middle-order batsman, registered his third Test double-ton on Monday. Which ensured a shot for the Kiwis to a victory in a Test which has lost two full days to persistent rain.
On the other hand, Bangladesh lost three wickets in their second innings of the match at the end of the fourth day at Basin Reserve.
New Zealand started the fourth day with 38 runs for two wickets. The overnight batsmen, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor, added 172 runs in the third wicket stand. While Williamson ended up 74 runs, Taylor completed his third Test double-ton in his 212 balls’ stay in the middle.
Taylor got two chances during the second over of the day of Abu Jayed Rahi. Firstly, Mahmudullah Riyad dropped a catch at the extra-cover area. Later, Shadman Islam failed to hold another one in the slip cordon, though, it was toughest than the Mahmudllah’s one.
Taylor, who is playing his 92nd Test, capitalized the chances with his vast experience and grabbed his third double ton in Test cricket. Along the way, he has surpassed the great Martin Crowe to score more Test hundreds.
New Zealand lost the first wicket of the day when Kane Williamson was removed by Taijul Islam with a catch by his own ball.
Bangladesh managed to get the next success after a 216-runs stand in the fourth wicket. When Taylor and Henry Nicholls took a real test of Bangladesh’s pace attack. Along with Taylor, Nicholls also hit a ton in Wellington.
The partnership was broken by Taijul again. He managed to remove Nicholls at 107. Taijul delivered a flatter ball, and Nicholls went to clear it toward the third man but missed completely.
After the removal of Nicholls, New Zealand lost two more wickets when Taylor and BJ Watling were removed by Mustafizur Rahman and Abu Jayed respectively. New Zealand declared the innings at 432/6 in 84.5 overs keeping a win in mind.
Bangladesh started their second innings of the match trailing by 221 runs. But they have disappointed to response to the situation properly as the lost Tamim Iqbal, who has scored highest runs for the Tigers in the ongoing series so far, for four runs. He fell prey to Trent Boult after hitting a four in the first ball of the innings.
Bangladesh lost another two wickets before ending the day with accumulating 80 for three in 23 overs.
Shadman, who has partnered Tamim in three consecutive 50-plus opening stand, fell for 29 this time. Followed by his dismissal, Mominul Haque failed to come out from the bad patch as he struck only 10.
Boult took the two of three wickets of Bangladesh and the other one was hunted by Matt Henry.
