Sirajganj, Oct 12 (UNB) – The local administration foiled three separate attempts to marry off underage girls in the Sadar upazila on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team conducted a drive at Boudhodhaldob Kismatpara in the upazila and stopped the marriage of seventh-grader student Sumaya Khatun, 13, in the afternoon, said UNO and Assistant Commissioner (land) Md Anisur Rahman.
They conducted two other drives at Jamua village around 6:30pm and stopped the marriage of eighth-grader student Monira Khatun, 15.
Ayesha Khatun, 14, another eighth-grader, was saved from child marriage at night.
Later, a mobile court led by the UNO fined the groom’s uncle, bride’s father and mother Tk 75,000 for arranging the marriages and released them after they gave separate undertakings.
