A notice signed by the Registrar of the university was issued in the morning asking the students to vacate their halls and dormitories by 5pm.
According to the notice, the university will remain closed for an indefinite period from March 28 for the sake of security of its students, teachers, staff as well as the law and order situation in and around the campus.
All the academic activities, including classes and examinations, will remain suspended until further notice, the notice reads.
On Wednesday, the university students staged demonstrations demanding withdrawal of an ‘offensive comment’ made by its Vice-chancellor Dr Imamul Huq while addressing a programme marking the 49th Independence Day on the campus.
They also boycotted classes and examinations after putting its academic building under lock and key in the morning.
Meanwhile, the demonstrations by the university students entered the third consecutive day today. They are hellbent to continue their agitations to press home their 10-point demand, defying the closure notice.
Since morning, the students started taking position on the campus and began their demonstrations around 9 am protesting the authorities’ decision to close the university indefinitely.
The students said they will continue their protests peacefully and not leave the campus until their demands are met.
Contacted, the university VC said, “There’s no point to seek apology. Their (student) demands are illogical. Those who opposed the programme organised marking the Independence Day are against the liberation.”
