Handloom workers and low-income people blocked Bogura-Nagarbari highway in Balshabari area of Ullapara upazila on Sunday demanding relief.
According to the locals, some handloom workers and low-income people who have become jobless due to restriction in movement following coronavirus outbreak, gathered in the area at noon and blocked the highway for an hour demanding relief.
On information, upazila nirbahi officer Arifuzzaman and officer-in-charge of Ullapara Police Station Dipok Kumar Dash went to the spot and assured them of providing relief.
Following the assurance, they left the highway.
Firoz Mahmud, additional deputy commissioner (general) said that 202 metric tonnes of rice was allotted for the upazila which have already been distributed. Additional 30 metric tonnes of rice have been allotted on Sunday afternoon.
