Munshiganj, Sept 6 (UNB) – Plying of all water vessels including launch and speedboats was suspended on Thursday on Shimulia- Kathalbari route due to strong current in the Padma river.
The authorities of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) suspended the services around 9 am to avert any untoward incident, said Khondakar Shah Khaled Neowaj, assistant general manager of BIWTC.
However, the ferry service on the route remained normal in carrying less number of vehicles than the normal capacity.
The ferries were running in only one way in the river and moving very slowly taking 20-25 minutes more than the normal time.
As the launch and speedboats remained off, the passengers were crossing the river through ferry.
A total of 300 vehicles remained stranded on the route till 1:30 pm.
