"We hope China will help address the Rohingya crisis to secure peace and stability in the region. The solution to the crisis lies in the early, safe and dignified return of the Myanmar’s displaced people who entered Bangladesh from Rakhine State to their place of origin," he said.
The President further said, "Bangladesh is currently hosting over 1.1 million Rogingyas. I hope China will continue to mount pressure on Myanmar to take back them."
He said this when newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming met him at Bangabhaban to present his credentials to the President.
President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.
Abdul Hamid said Bangladesh does not believe in any confrontation, but it wants to settle the issue in a peaceful manner.
Welcoming the new Chinese envoy, he said the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and China are excellent and the ties are expanding gradually.
Describing China as one of Bangladesh’s development partners, the President said its support in technical and financial sector plays an important role in the socio-economic development here, expressing the hope that this trend of co-operation will continue in the future
“Many mega projects are being implemented in Bangladesh with the financial and technical support from China, which is contributing largely to the national development,” he mentioned.
During the meeting, Abdul Hamid urged the Chinese government to invest more in different potential sectors in Bangladesh.
Referring to the ‘One-China’ policy, he said Bangladesh has been consistent in supporting the policy.
Li Jiming said the Chinese investors consider Bangladesh as a good destination for their investment and many Chinese companies have already invested here.
He said their country will continue its all-out cooperation for the socio-economic development of Bangladesh and sought cooperation from the President in discharging his assignment here.
Meanwhile, first Resident Ambassador of Kosovo to Bangladesh Gunear Ureya also presented his credentials to the President at Bangabhaban.
Welcoming the newly appointed ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo in Dhaka, the President thanked the Kosovo government for its decision to open their resident mission in Dhaka. "Through this, bilateral relations between the two countries have started and these will get a shape of multilateral relations in coming days," he said.
The President suggested that the new envoy be more active in exploring the trade and investment potentials between the two countries.
Bangladesh officially recognised Kosovo as an independent state on February 27, 2017 as solemn expression of Bangladesh's solidarity with the people of Kosovo.
Gunear Ureya expressed his gratitude to the Bangladesh government for recognising Kosovo as an independent state.
Secretaries concerned to the President and high officials of the Foreign Ministry were present.
Earlier, on their arrivals at Bangabhaban, a smartly turned-out contingent of the horse-mounted President Guard Regiment (PGR) gave the envoys guards of honour as part of the ceremony.
