Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu inaugurated the fair as the chief guest at the BSCIC auditorium in the capital marking the country’s 48th Victory Day.
Acting Industries Secretary Md Abdul Halim presided over the function while BSCIC Chairman Mushtaq Hasan Muhammad Iftikhar also spoke at the inaugural ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Amu said the industrial sector is now contributing 33.71 percent to the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) of the country which was 17.77 percent in FY 2007-2008. “Bangladesh has done better in the socio-economic indexes than the neighbouring countries. The per capital income has increased to $1751 in 2018-19 FY which was $543 in 2005-206 FY,” he said.
He said Bangladeshis are now owners of different big industries and factories that were once owned by Pakistanis.
Different organisations under the Industries Ministry were showcasing their products, including handicraft, technological items and foodstuff, at the fair.
The fair is open from 3pm to 8pm every day until Thursday.
