Tipped off that ‘Saimon Air Travels’ had been involved in cheating people sending them abroad, including Malaysia, with fake documents, a team of Rab-3 conducted a drive at the travel agency on the 4th floor of Karim Chamber around 8pm, said sources at the Rab headquarters.
During the drive, the elite force arrested travel agency owner Md Quddus Bepary, 55, and his associates Md Rabiul Islam, 31, Md Jakir Hossain, 41, Md Minto, 39, and Md Ariful Islam.
The Rab team also recovered huge fake documents, 48 passports and some foreign currencies from the office.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees revealed that they used to send people to Malaysia via India and Indonesia.
They reportedly confessed to have so far sent 25 people, including seven women, to Malaysia till August last.
Executive Magistrate of the Rab headquarters SarwarAkam sentenced the five arrested people to six months’ imprisonment apart from slapping a fine of Tk 50,000 each.
