The match featured two centuries by captain Mominul Haque and Yasir Ali and a superb eight-wicket haul by teenage national spinner Naeem Hasan of East Zone.
This win brightened the chance of East Zone to win the championship with maximum 29.14 points from all the six matches if the South Zone fail to win their last match against BCB North Zone.
Replying to Walton Central Zone’s first innings total of 224 runs, Islami Bank East Zone, having 425 runs in the first innings, resumed the 2nd innings with overnight total 2 for no loss and declared the innings at 254 runs for 3 in 43 overs on the 3rd day (Wednesday).
After the departure of two top order batsmen for 46 runs, one down captain Monimul Haque pairing with number four Yasir Ali contributed superb 175 runs in the 3rd wicket stand.
Yasir Ali made 101 runs off 109 balls featuring 10 fours and two sixes, Mominul Haque hammered exactly 100 runs off 106 balls hitting nine fours and one six, opener Rony Talukder scored 27-ball 24 runs, including four boundaries, while Zakir made not out 15 runs off six balls with two fours and six.
Pacer Taskin Ahmed, Shahadat Hossain and Mosharraf Hossain claimed one wicket each.
Chasing a target of 456 runs, Walton Central Zone opened the 2nd innings on the 3rd day and were bundled out cheaply for 134 runs in 42.2 overs with Nazmul Hossain scoring 36, Saif Hasan 31, Marshall Ayub and Zakir Ali 13 runs.
The 18-year-old right-arm off-break bowler from Chattogram, Naeem Hasan, made the major damage to the Walton Central Zone innings grabbing his career best eight wickets for 47 runs in 20 overs with nine maidens. The wonder boy registered another eight wicket-haul in the last edition of National Cricket League for 106 runs.
In the day’s other BCL match, right-handed national coloured batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy of Prime Bank South Zone missed a double ton for 20 runs at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, but helped his team roll over the opponent in the match.
Now, South Zone were leading against BCB North Zone. In the first innings of the match, BCB North Zone scored 293 runs and South Zone replied with a big total of 541 and thus they managed a lead of 248 runs.
Anamul Haque recorded 180 for South Zone which is his second ton in the contest. The right-handed opener finished this year’s BCL scoring 638 runs with three more fifties to his credit. Anamul is the only batsman to gather more than 600 runs in the league.
In the second innings, North Zone posted 186 for five wickets at the end of third day’s play and they are trailing by more 62 runs with five wickets in hand. In this match, South Zone are in a good position to win the match. If they finally manage to win, they will have the trophy as well.
The ongoing 6th round became a perfect final stage for the participating teams as every team had the chance to win the title. But Central Zone fell from the race as they lost the last round to East Zone.
Walton Central Zone started the final round with most points as they had managed 21.87 after the first five rounds, South Zone were just after them with 20.63 points. East Zone started the final round with 17.89 points while North Zone managed 17.68 points. Right after the final round match, Central Zone finished the event with 23.37 points, and East Zone earned 29.14 points to their credit.
