The right-handed batsman was stuck at home during the general holidays announced aiming to curve off the spread of Covid-19. He was unable to train outdoors due to the same. He, however, tried his best to do the drills which doesn’t require much ground. Liton returned to the field for the individual training programme for a few days. According to the batsman, getting the chance to train outdoors is a big relief for him and for the other cricketers.
“It was a very tough time for me because I had to go home and stay locked for a long time directly from the field. We, the professional cricketers, are not used to this sort of things in our entire career. I have tried some drills at home. But there is a big difference between training outdoors and home,” Liton said in remarks after his individual training on Monday.
“I have passed time watching the video of my good batting efforts what I have done for Bangladesh. I tried to improve the failings I have. At the same time, I talked to the coaches to take advice on how I can be a better batsman,” he added.
Due to the deadly virus, Bangladesh 14 international matches have been postponed. Of them, Sri Lanka series comprising three Tests is set to take place in October-November this year. Tigers are now preparing themselves keeping this series in mind.
As per the latest development, the Bangladesh team will fly for the island nation in the last week of September, and after that, they will maintain a mandatory quarantine period in Sri Lanka. However, it is not yet certain how long they will be in quarantine.
“We have plenty of cricket to play in the coming days. So we are preparing accordingly. I am focussing to do well in the next series and go forward with that. And, at the same time, I am happy that I am getting the chance to meet my teammates now at the field. We have started practice in small groups. It is helping a lot,” Liton told the media.
Liton believes that the long layoff from cricket has damaged their focus towards the game. According to him, it will be tough for them to get the old focus back. He said it would be a problem for both batsmen and bowlers.
“I think we are yet to get our confidence back because we had a long gap from the game. It will be tough for both batsmen and bowlers. We have done well in the last series. Now, we have to try hard to get the old focus back in the coming series,” Liton further told the media.
