Russia's Federal Security Service has detained a Russian national suspected of planning a terrorist attack against the authorities of the northwestern city of Murmansk, the service said on Wednesday.
The suspect, born in 1983, was detained on Tuesday when he tried to remove an improvised explosive device from a cache, it said in a statement.
The detainee was suspected to be a supporter of an extremist organization called Right Sector, and the investigating authorities instituted criminal proceedings against the detainee, according to the statement.
In November 2014, the Russian Supreme Court banned the activities of the Ukrainian Right Sector in the country, recognizing it as an extremist organization.
