Coronavirus: Expatriate tests positive after death in Chattogram
An expatriate tested positive for coronavirus after his death in Enayet Bazar area in the city on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Sekander Ali, 45, of the area. He returned from Saudi Arabia in late January this year.
Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi told UNB that Sekander died with coronavirus symptoms on Monday morning but the test result confirmed at 10pm that he had the virus.
Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) with the help of police buried the deceased, he said adding that so far seven people died from coronavirus in the city.
Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said the house of the deceased on Batali road in the area was put under lockdown.
Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased alleged that they tried to admit Sekander to a hospital as he had been suffering from fever, breathing complication for the last 15 days but failed.
As the situation worsened in the last few days, his samples were given to Chattogram General Hospital on Thursday, and after his death on Monday morning, they got the report.
Asked about delay in getting coronavirus test report, the Civil Surgeon said, “We had nothing to do. Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) takes more than a week to provide report.”
Bangladesh has so far recorded 10,143 coronavirus cases and 182 deaths.
The country reported its highest daily new coronavirus cases on Monday with the detection of 688 patients.
