Modi reiterates commitment for Teesta deal, supply Covid vaccine to Bangladesh
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reiterated Delhi’s commitment and continued effort to complete the Interim Water Sharing arrangement for the Teesta River at the Bangladesh-India virtual summit and assured that India would support effective and timely delivery of Covid-19 vaccines.

Covid-19: Ekushey Padak winner magician Jewel Aich in ICU
Freedom fighter and Ekushey Padak winner magician Jewel Aich, who recently contracted Covid-19, is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital.
His wife Bipasha Aich confirmed the news to the media on Tuesday night.
She said Jewel Aich had been suffering from fever since November 4. His fever level continued to rise so he underwent COVID-19 test upon doctor’s advice, as well as a CT scan of the chest. The test report came out positive and showed that his lungs have also been infected.
Bipasha informed that the magician was taken to a hospital in the capital on Monday morning due to his deteriorating condition. However, his family decided to change the hospital due to unsatisfactory service.
He was then admitted to the CMH on Tuesday afternoon, and Bipasha expressed gratitude towards the hospital authorities for taking prompt action.
Regarding his physical condition, Bipasha Aich said her husband is suffering from fever and cough. He has lost his sense of smell and taste. He is being given oxygen, although having no sign of breathlessness yet.
Jewel Aich has been suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure.
Born to BK Aich and Saraju Aich on April 10, 1950 in Barisal, Jewel Aich took part as a combat soldier in the Liberation War and also served as a non-combatant role, teaching students in refugee camps alongside inspiring the freedom fighters.
Apart from being the most renowned and popular Bangladeshi magician, Jewel Aich is a skilled flutist, author and ambassador to many humanitarian projects.
Jewel Aich received Ekushey Padak in 2003 and CJFB (Cultural Journalists Forum of Bangladesh) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008, as well as many other awards in his illustrious career.
Formulate well-coordinated roadmap to face Covid crisis: PM to world leaders
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday urged world leaders to formulate a well-coordinated roadmap to face the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"The Covid-19 pandemic has created a multifaceted global problem and it should be addressed globally. We need a well-coordinated roadmap to face this crisis," she said while virtually inaugurating the 14th international conference of the Finance Ministers of ASEM member countries.
Bangladesh hosted the meeting virtually which the Prime Minister opened by delivering a pre-recorded video message.
The theme of the 14th ASEM Finance Ministers Meeting is “Addressing Covid-19: Ensuring a Strong, Sustainable, Inclusive and Balanced Recovery”.
Sheikh Hasina expressed her optimism that the world is going to get effective vaccines against Covid-19 soon. She has called for making the vaccines available at free of costs for all countries.
"We’re hoping that the world is going to get effective vaccines soon. They must be made available for all countries, especially the LDCs and developing ones, at free of cost. The rich countries and, the MDBs and IFIs should come forward with generous support in this regard," she said.
