Muggers rob Italian citizen in Ctg
Muggers took away an Italian citizen’s handbag when she along with two others were passing through the SS Khaled Road in Chattogram city on Tuesday night.

The Italian national, a photographer named Cristina Jemma, along with two others were walking towards Jamal Khan from Shilpakala Academy around 10:45 pm.
At one stage, muggers, in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, snatched her bag and fled the scene.

According to Cristina, she withdrew Tk 30,000 from an ATM booth and there were other valuables including a mobile phone and camera in the bag.
Police are trying to arrest the muggers.

Chattogram-12: Two police officers withdrawn for alleged links to independent candidate
Two police officers of Patiya Police Station have been withdrawn for allegedly working for an independent candidate, who is the incumbent MP, in Chattogram-12 parliamentary constituency.
The suspended officers are Sub-Inspector Sanjay Ghosh and ASI Ziaul Haque Zia. The two withdrawn police officers were added to the district police lines on Monday.
Earlier, Patiya Police Station OC Nezam Uddin was withdrawn on the same charge.
Md Jasim Uddin, the current officer-in-charge (OC) of Patiya Police Station, confirmed the withdrawal information of the two officers.
Earlier, on December 29, Awami League South District unit President Motaherul Islam Chowdhury lodged a written complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner against Patiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Md Solaiman, SI Sanjay Ghosh, Md Asadur Rahman, Ratan Kanti Dey, Akram Hossain Sumon, Shimul Chandra Das, Zia Uddin, ASI Md Foyez Ahmed and ASI Anup Kuman.
They were accused of harassing and intimidating Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League leaders and public representatives in various ways in favor of independent candidate Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, the incumbent MP who served as the ruling party whip in the 11 Jatiya Sangshad.
However, when AL revealed its picks for the 12th parliamentary election, he was revealed as one of the 71 AL MPs who were denied the boat symbol this time around. He then decided to run as an independent.
Chattogram-3: Independent candidate's supporter show-caused for statement undermining election
The Electoral Enquiry Committee (the ‘Committee’) on Monday served a show-cause notice to Zafar Ullah Titu, a supporter of an Independent candidate of Chattogram-3 (Sandwip upazila) constituency Dr Md Jamaluddin Chowdhury for breaching the electoral code of conduct.
According to the notice, signed by the chairman of the Committee for the constituency and Chattogram Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Shahidul Islam, the supporters of the Independent candidate Dr Md Jamaluddin Chowdhury brought out a procession at Kalapani union of Sandwip upazila on December 30.

A mobile court on Sunday fined Didarul Alam Apello, Ward Councilor of Chattogram's Sitakunda municipality, Tk 5000 for violating the electoral code of conduct.Md Alauddin, assistant commissioner (Land) and executive magistrate of the mobile court, slapped the penalty.According to mobile court sources, he was fined for miking in favour of AL candidate SM Al Mamun in front of the upazila complex, which is a violation of electoral code."No one will be spared for breaching the code of conduct and this kind of operation will continue until the polling day to conduct and complete the election properly,” said Executive Magistrate Mohammad Alauddin.

A fire broke out at a slum in Chattogram’s Muradpur area on Thursday.
The fire broke out at the slum around 7:10 pm behind Chattogram Education Board and spread soon, said Kapil Uddin, senior official of Agrabad Fire Service.

BNP leader shot dead over land dispute in Sitakunda
A local leader of BNP was shot to death by his rivals over a land dispute in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Nurul Mostafa Bazal, 58, senior vice-president of Baroierdhala union unit BNP and son of Mujibul Haque of Paschim Lalanagar Subedar Bari in the upazila.

Woman's decomposed body recovered from Chattogram hill
The decomposed body of an unidentified woman was recovered from a hill of Adhunagar Rashida Ghona Kulpagli in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram on Thursday.
Locals spotted the body of a woman wearing black burqa on Thursday afternoon and informed police.

EC appoints 23 judicial magistrates to check poll-related irregularities
The Election Commission (EC) has appointed 23 judicial magistrates for 16 constituencies in Chattogram to check election-related irregularities.
These magistrates will be on duty for a total of five days from January 5 to January 9.

A total of 653 judicial magistrates will be on duty across the country for five days, including two days before and two days after the election.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested a local Jubo Dal leader from Chandgaon area of Chattogram city early today (November 28, 2023) for his suspected involvement in police constable Amirul’s killing on October 28 during BNP’s grand rally in Dhaka.

Murad Chowdhury, general secretary of Chattogram north district Jubo Dal, was arrested around 1 am on Tuesday, said Nurul Afsar, senior assistant director of RAB-7.
