Two detained for instigating self-immolation of businessman
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) detained two top officials of Amin Manufacturing Company over instigating the suicide of Kazi Anis who set himself on fire in front of the Jatiya Press Club.
On secret information, Rab detained managing director Nurul Amin and Director Fatema Amin of the company, after conducting a drive in the city’s Uttara area on Tuesday evening, said ASP Imran Khan of Rab headquarters (media wing).
Earlier in the day, Nazrul Islam, a brother of the victim filed a case with Shahbagh police station accusing the detainees for instigating suicide of the victim, said Golam Hossain, sub-inspector (SI) of Shahbagh police station.
Kazi Anis, 45, a vendor on contract from Kushtia's Kumarkhali upazila, took the extreme step at 5pm on Monday "out of frustration" after Henolux, the company, refused to settle his dues of Tk1.26 crore, according to some journalists.

Journalists and law enforcers present at the scene poured water on him and rushed him to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in a critical condition.
Anis had suffered 85 percent burns and kept on life support at the hospital, according to doctors.
He succumbed to his injuries at 6am today, said Bacchu Mia, inspector in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police outpost.
Quack held in Khulna
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) has claimed to have detained a quack from Koyra upazila of Khulna.
Posing as a medical doctor, the accused, Mubarak Hossain, had been treating patients in the Orjunpur area of the upazila, according to a Rab release.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-6 conducted a drive in the area around 6pm on Monday and detained Mubarak.

The elite force also seized prescriptions, fake seals and pads from his possession.
Earlier, he was convicted for practicing without a medical degree by a mobile court in Barishal, the release added.
5 held for black marketing of train tickets at Dhaka railway station
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) has detained five men from the city's Kamalapur Railway Station for alleged black marketing of train tickets ahead of Eid.
Acting on a tip-off that a group was selling tickets of different trains at inflated prices taking advantage of the Eid rush, a Rab-3 team conducted a drive at the railway station at 8.45 pm Monday and detained the men.
The detainees were identified as Md Liton Mia, 37, Md Shah Lam, 34, Md Imran, 20, Md Abu Taher, 26, and Md Zahidur Rahman Shakib, 40, Rab-3 said in a release Tuesday.

Four train tickets and Tk 6,927 in cash were seized from the detainees, said Rab-3. During questioning, the accused admitted to the crime.
Legal action will be taken against the detainees, said the release.

Rab arrests DMCH pharmacist, seizes injections
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have arrested a pharmacist of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and seized around 200 injections from his possession on Monday.
The arrestee is Ismail Hossain, 34, sector in-charge of DMCH drug store of outdoor department.
Confirming the matter DMCH acting deputy director Dr Ashraful Alam said an allegation was made with Shahbagh police station in this regard.

Suspected militant leader held in Narail
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a militant leader from Narail district on Monday.
The arrestee has been identified as Md Russel Sheikh Salman, son of Md Robiul Islam Robi of Taltola in Narail. He is the divisional leader of the banned militant outfit Ansar al-Islam, according to Rab.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team of Rab-6 conducted a drive in the Taltola area of Sadar upazila around 4pm on Monday and arrested Russel.

During preliminary interrogation, he admitted to his involvement in the activities of Ansar al-Islam, said Kabirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
A case has been filed against the arrestee, he added.

Suspected robber killed in Manikganj ‘gunfight’
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) claimed to have gunned down a suspected robber during a gunfight in Singair upazila of Manikganj district in the early hours of Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Kaisar Ahmed, son of Lokman Hossain of Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat district.
A Rab-4 patrol team was heading towards the Singair highway on a microbus around 12.30am when a gang of robbers ambushed the vehicle, said the director of Rab's legal and media wing, Commander Khandaker Al Moin.
"A gunfight ensued between the robbers and the elite force. Though his accomplices managed to escape, Kaisar was found dead after the gunfight," the officer said.

Two Rab personnel were also injured during the gunfight. They are being treated at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital.
The elite force also seized two pistols, four sharp weapons and two torch lights from the possession of the deceased.
Rab is a brand name for peace, don’t malign it: Shahriar
Describing elite force Rab as a “brand name for peace” in villages, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam on Sunday said this institution should not be maligned which helped the country contain militancy.
“Please don’t try to malign this institution on which we rely heavily,” he told reporters at a media briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, apparently referring to the US sanctions imposed on Rab in last December.
He also said, “You go to villages and you will see Rab is a brand name for peace. Rab is a brand name where you will get justice and Rab is a brand name for anti-terrorism activities.”

In the past, the state minister said, Rab had been established on the recommendation of different countries and it has over the years become well-organized and strong with training from a number of countries.
RAB uncovers another case of wrongful imprisonment; absconding convict arrested
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have arrested an absconding convict from the capital who paid off a cousin to serve the life sentence he received for killing a man in 2010.
The arrestee was identified as Sohag alias Boro Sohag, 34, who was sentenced to life imprisonment on December 28, 2017.
According to a media release of Rab HQ, a team of Rab-10, tipped off, made the arrest conducting a drive Saturday night in the Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital area, where he had gone to get his Covid-19 vaccination done ahead of fleeing to the UAE with fake/false identity papers he had already obtained for the purpose.

Sohag shot a man named Humayun Kabir alias Titu in the Kodomtoli area of the city in November 2010 and got arrested in December in the same year. Four people including Shohag were made accused in the murder case. He secured bail in 2014, and soon after he jumped bail and has evaded law enforcement ever since. Eventually a Dhaka court sentenced him to life imprisonment in absentia.
Sohag has now confessed that he allured his 'drug addict' cousin Md Hossain, 35, to assume his identity and surrender before the court saying he would provide Tk 5,000 every month for serving his sentence. He also assured his cousin Hossain to get him out of the jail within 2/3 months. And the court ordered to send Hossain to jail, turning down the bail plea in 2018.
However, the court came to know about the forgery in 2021 following the report of a journalist about a 'Fake Sohag' in jail which was confirmed in a police report. The court later issued a warrant against Sohag, the release added.
Two 'criminals' detained in Cox's Bazar
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained two alleged criminals from Office Para in the district's Maheshkhali upazila.
The detainees have been identified as Khairul Alam, 25, son of Omar Ali, and Saiadul Karim, 33, son of Nuru Mia of the upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, a Rab-15 team conducted a drive in the area and detained the duo around 4.30am on Wednesday, said senior assistant director of the unit.
Four guns and four bullets were seized from their possession, the officer said, adding that three of their accomplices managed to escape
The detainees were involved in many criminal activities, said the elite force.
Shocker from Sirajganj: In-laws ‘shave housewife’s hair, eyebrows’
A 43-year-old man and two of his family members were detained by RAB members on Tuesday in a case filed on charge of shaving his wife’s hair and eyebrows in Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj.
The detainees are victim Gulnahar Parvin Minu’s husband Mehedi Hasan Sujon, 43, his brother Md Sumon,35, and mother Maina,55, residents of Satbaria village in the upazila.

They were detained around 6 am from Shahzadpur in Sirajganj and Savar during a joint drive of Rab-4 and Rab-12, said Major Md Mushfiqur Rahman, deputy commander of Rapid Action Battalion-12 (RAB).
Married in 2006, Minu and Mehedi live in Gazipur as Mehedi works in a garment factory.
Minu alleged her husband always tortured her both physically and mentally.
