Bashundhara lift BPL title for 3rd time in a row beating Saif
Bashundhara Kings stormed past Saif Sporting 2-0 to lift their third Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football title in a row winning a fierce encounter at Bir Shrestha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj Monday.
Before Monday's match, the Kings earned 49 points in 19 matches. They need just one win in their remaining three matches against Saif today, Dhaka Abahani on July 24 and Sheikh Jamal on July 30 to lift the title for the third time in a row after Dhaka Abahani.
The Sky Blue Brigade clinched the BPL title for a record six times, including three times in a row.
Soon after the final whistle, the players and officials of the Kings started celebrating on the field on the field wearing champions' jerseys.
In the day's match, midfielder Motin Mia put the Kings into the lead in the 29th minute (1-0).
The Kings were down to 10 men in the 37th minute as their defender Yeasin Arafat received a red card.

Super sub Biplo Ahmed, who replaced Motin Mia, netted the second goal for the Kings in the 81st minute (2-0).
This was the second consecutive victory for the Kings against Saif. They beat Saif 4-3 in the first phase.
The Kings were crowned champions after securing 51 points from 20 matches with 16 wins, three draws and one loss.
Independence Cup and Federation Cup champions Dhaka Abahani secured 41 points from 19 matches, 10 points behind the league leader Kings.
The Kings will play the remaining two league matches against Dhaka Abahani on July 24 and Sheikh Jamal DC on July 30, the results of which will not affect their place in the points table.
BPL Football: Bashundhara Kings beat Sheikh Russel 3-2
Coming from behind, defending champions and table toppers Bashundhara Kings beat Sheikh Russel 3-2 in the 12-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football Sunday.
In the first half, both teams scored one goal each at the Bashundhara Sports Complex.
Kyrgyz defender Ayzar Akmatov put Sheikh Russel into the lead in the 28th minute from a penalty (1-0).

The Kings' Brazilian midfielder Miguel Figueira restored parity in the 39th minute (1-1).
Iranian defender Khaled Shafiei scored the second goal for the Kings in the 65th (2-1). Brazilian playmaker Robson Robinho scored the third goal for them in the 85th (3-1).
Sheikh Russel's Mannaf Rabbi pulled one back in the 93rd minute (3-2).
In their previous matches, Sheikh Russel outplayed three-time champions Sheikh Jamal 3-1; Bashundhara Kings beat Rahmatganj 2-0.

With Sunday's win, Bashundhara Kings dominated the league table, securing 44 points from 17 matches, staying nine points ahead of second-placed Dhaka Abahani.
Six times champions Dhaka Abahani secured 35 points from 16 matches. Sheikh Russel secured the eighth spot in the league table with 18 points from 17 matches.
Monday, Sheikh Jamal will face Dhaka Mohammedan at 4pm at the Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla.
AFC Cup: Bashundhara Kings to play Maziya S&RC of Maldives on Wednesday
Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) champions Bashundhara Kings will start their Group D campaign of the AFC Cup Football' 2022 taking on Maziya Sports & Recreation Club of the Maldives on Wednesday.
The match will kick-off at 9 pm (local time) at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) in Kolkata.

Earlier, two Indian contenders, ATK Mohun Bagan FC:of Kolkata will face Gokulam Kerala FC in the opening Group D match of the AFC Cup at 5 pm local time at the same venue.
Last two times BPL champions Bashundhara Kings, which reached Kolkata last Saturday (May 14), to play the group matches of the AFC Cup, will face ATK Mohun Bagan on May 21 and Gokulam Kerala FC on May 24 in their remaining Group D matches.
ATK Mohun Bagan of Kolkata qualified for the group stage of the AFC Cup eliminating Dhaka Abahani Limited by 3-1 goal in a play-off match in Kolkata on April 19 last..
A total of 38 leading club teams of Asia, split into 10 groups, will battle for the coveted club crown eyeing on the final on October 22 next.

Asia Cup Football, which was introduced in 2004, also offered a substantial prize money this time with the champion team getting USD 1.5 million and the runners-up will get USD 750,000.in addition to prestigious continental trophy.
Bashundhara Kings reach Kolkata to compete in AFC Cup
Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) champions Bashundhara Kings reached Kolkata Saturday (May 14) noon to compete in the Group D match of the AFC Cup Football beginning there on May 18.
Bashundhara Kings, which placed in Group D of the AFC Cup with Maziya S&RC of the Maldives, ATK Mohun Bagan of Kolkata and Gokulam FC of Kerala (India), will start their campaign on May 18 taking on Maziya S&RC.

The Bangladesh champions Kings will play Kolkata Mohunbagan on May 21 and meet Gokulam FC of Kerala on May 24.
Kolkata Mohunbagan reached the group stage of the AFC Cup beating Dhaka Abahani Limited in the play-off match.

After the day's 14th round matches, Bashundhara Kings further consolidated their solo lead in the league table securing 35 points, Dhaka Abahani Ltd followed the leader distantly collecting 31 points while Sheikh Jamal DC went down in the race with 27 points.
In Munshiganj, Burundi forward Sudi Abdallah put the freedom fighters team Muktijoddha ahead in the 17th minute to dominate the first half by 1-0 goal

Brazilian playmaker cum striker Robson Robinho restored the parity for the last two time champions Bashundhara Kings just three minutes after the breather (1-1).
Sudi Abdallah again put Muktijoddha ahead in the 60th minute scoring his 2nd goal (2-1)
But Nigerian origin fresh Bangladeshi citizen Eleta Kingsley again leveled the Kings margin in the 73rd minute (2-2).
Local forward Sumon Reza relived the Basundhara Kings from huge tension scoring the match- winning goal in the 80th minute (3-2).
At the Sylhet District Stadum, defender Mehedi Hasan Royal scored first for sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani in the 13th minute while midfielder Jewel Rana scored the 2nd goal for Dhaka Abahani in the 22nd minute (2-0).
Mesbahuddin scored the lone goal for Rahmatganj MFS in the stoppage time (90+2 minute) of the match (2-1).
In the day's another match, Sheikh Jamal DC tasted first defeat after 13 matches as they suffered 0-1 goal losses against Bangladesh Police FC at the Muktijoddha Smriti Stadium in Rajshahi.
Local forward Mohamad Sheikh Bablu scored the match deciding goal for Police FC in the 62nd minute with the frustration of Sheikh Jamal (1-0)
In the days other match, Saif Sporting Club advanced to the 4th slot in the league table after Bashundhara Kings, Dhaka Abahani and Sheikh Jamal DC bagging 24 points beating former champions Sheikh Russel KC by 1-0 goal at the Bashundhara Sports Complex here.
Defender Riyadul Hasan Rafi scored the all-important goal for Saif SC in the 61st minute (1-0).
14th round of BPL Football begins Saturday; holders Kings to play Muktijoddha day one
Holders Bashundhara Kings to play lowly Muktijoddha Sangsad KC in one of the four Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football matches on Saturday (May 6) at 3:45 pm at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj.
Former champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will play Bangladesh Police FC at the Muktijoddha Smriti Stadium in Rajshahi, also at 3:45 pm on the same day.
In the other two Saturday's matches, Saif Sporting will face Sheikh Russel KC at 3:45 pm at the Bashundhara Sports Complex here while six times champions Dhaka Abahani Limited will encounter lowly Rahmatganj MFS at 5:30 pm at the Sylhet District Stadium.

Last two times champions Bashundhara Kings dominated the league comfortably securing 32 points from 13 matches while Dhaka Abahani Ltd and Sheikh Jamal DC followed the leaders distantly with 28 and 27 points respectively.
Muktijoddha Sangsad KC and newcomers Swadhinata KS are struggling at the bottom securing seven and six points respectively.

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club followed them distantly with 24 points from 12 encounters while six time champions Dhaka Abahani Limited were in the 3rd slot collecting 22 points from eleven matches, playing one match less than the Kings and Sheikh Jamal DC. In the day’s match, newly recruited Brazilian midfielder Miguel Ferreira came to the lime light in his very first match scoring both the goals for the Kings in the 28th and 37th minutes respectively.. In the day’s other match, Sheikh Jamal DC advanced to the 2nd slot in the league table toppling Dhaka Abahani beating Uttar Baridhara Club also by 2-0 goals at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj Sunday afternoon. Nigerian forward Chijioke Alaekwe put Sheikh Jamal ahead in the very 2nd minute (1-0) while another Nigerian striker Musa Najere doubled the winners margin in the 21st minute (2-0).

BPL Football: Bashundhara Kings taste first win beating Uttar Baridhara 1-0
Twice-defending champions Bashundhara Kings tasted their first win in this season's 12-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), beating neighbours Uttar Baridhara Club 1-0 at the Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Monday.
Kings remain favourites to complete a hattrick of championships in the country's most prestigious football competition this time, despite starting their league campaign on a frustrating note losing the opening fixture to newcomers Swadhinata KS 2-1 in Tongi last Thursday, one of the biggest upsets in the competition's history.
On Monday, Bosnian striker Stojan Vranjes scored the all-important deciding goals as early as the first third of the match- decider for the defending champions Kings in the 27th minute by a placing shot, off a long cross by Mohammad Ibrahim (2-0).

Bashundhara Kings have now managed three points from two matches to get back the winning feeling, even as the trophy cabinet remains bare for the 2021-22 season. Kings will enter every domestic competition they play in this year as favourites, having bagged 3 of the 4 official BFF titles last year. Already though, twice this season they have fallen short: in both the Independence Cup and Federation Cup.
Uttar Baridhara Club remained at bottom of the league with empty hand with two successive defeats after conceding 1-2 goals losses against Sheikh Jamal DC in the first match.
Two matches will be on Tuesday (Feb 8).
