Noakhali, Sept 3 (UNB)–At least three people, including a woman and her son, were killed following a head-on collision between a CNG run auto-rickshaw and a pick-van on Noakhali-Feni road in Senbagh upazila on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Abu Taher, 35 and Feroza Begum, 60 and her son Mohon, 35.
Mosleh Uddin, sub-inspector of Senbag Police Station, said the accident took place around 9:30am as the pick-up van collided with the auto-rickshaw, leaving the trio dead on the spot and three others injured.
Chapainawabganj, Sept 3 (UNB) – Police in an overnight drive arrested 33 people from different areas in five upazilas of the district on various charges.
Mintu Rahman, sub-inspector of district police control room, said as part of an anti-narcotics drive, police conducted drives from Sunday night to Monday morning and arrested 19 warranted accused and 14 people accused in several cases.
Police also recovered 53 Yaba tablets and 204 bottles of Phensidyl.
Sylhet, Sept 3 (UNB) – A schoolboy died from electrocution and another sustained injuries at Asampara village in Goainghat upazila on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Mashuk, 12, son of Jahur Uddin of the village and a class VII student of Haki Sohrab Ali School, while the injured was Sohag, son of Shahjahan and class VI student of the school.
Locals said Mashuk and Sohag came in contact with a live electric wire when they were cutting a tree beside their school.
Masuk died on the spot and Sohag sustained injuries.
Cox’s Bazar, Sept 3 (UNB) –Three throat-slit Rohingya men were rescued alive from a hill cave at Chakmarkul Pariapara in Teknaf upazila on Monday.
They were identified as Nure Alam, 42, son of Sayed Khokon of Balukhali camp, Mohammad Khaleque, 22, son of Jamal Hossain and Mohammad Anwar, 33, son of Abdul Gaffar of Kutupalong camp.
Informed, a team of police went to the spot and rescued the three young men around 11 am with their throat slit, said Dipangkar Karmakar, a sub-inspector of Whoaikang police camp in Teknaf.
Ranjit Kumar Barua, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said the three throat-slit young men were alive and taken to Cox’s Bazar Hospital.
He said someone tried to kill them but it was not still clear who the attackers were and what was their motive.
Dhaka, Sept 3 (UNB) – A schoolteacher has been suspended for ‘sexually harassing’ a female student in Panchagarh while a girl ‘gang raped’ in Sherpur and a schoolboy arrested in Sylhet for allegedly violating a schoolgirl, demonstrating that the vulnerabilities of girls are growing across the country.
According to reports reaching the UNB news desk, an assistant teacher of Boda Pilot High School in Boda upazila of Panchagarh has been suspended for six months on charge of sexually harassing a schoolgirl on August 26.
The teacher, Abdur Razzak Raju, has also been banned from entering the school premises and asked to explain his position within seven days, said Rabiul Alam Subol, headmaster of the school.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the school managing committee and teachers.
A five-member probe body has been formed to look into the matter, and action will be taken against the teacher if he is found guilty following the probe report, the headmaster added.
As claimed by the victim, a Class-IX student of the school, Raju sexually harassed her when she went to his house for tuition on August 26 as she was alone at that time.
Later, her parents informed the matter to the headmaster and submitted a written complaint to the local MP, deputy commissioner, police super and UNO, demanding exemplary punishment of the teacher.
Syed Mahmud Hossain, UNO of Boda upazila, said necessary action will be taken against the accused teacher following the investigation.
In Sherpur, a Class-VII student was allegedly violated by three young men at Rouha Kalapara village in Sadar upazila on Sunday night.
Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said a case was filed with the police station while the alleged rapists --Shakil Miah, 20, son of Abdul Miah, Masud Miah, 19, son of Bachchu Miah, and Shipon Miah, 20, son of Aynal Haq--went into hiding after the incident.
He said the trio waylaid the girl around 8:30pm while she was returning home from the house of a neighbouring student.
They took her to a bamboo cluster and raped her in turns, the OC said.
Meanwhile, Ruhul Amin, a Class-X student and son of Master Abdur Razzak of Rajaganj village in Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet, was arrested from his residence on Sunday for reportedly violating a schoolgirl.
The victim filed a case with Kanaighat Police Station on June 20 over the rape. Ruhul had been on the run since the filing of the case.
