Case filed in Kadamtali triple murder: police
A case was lodged with Kadamtali police station in the capital early Sunday in connection with the killing of a couple and their daughter, police said.
Police recovered the bodies of Masud Rana, 50, his wife Moushumi Islam and their daughter Jannatul from the flat located on the 1st floor of a multistoried building at 274/1 Lal Mia Sarder Road of Muradpur under Kadamtoli police station on Saturday.
Shakhwat Hossain, a brother of the victim Masud Rana filed the case accusing Masud Rana’s daughter Mehjabin and her husband Shafiqul Islam.

A murder case has been filed accusing daughter Mehejabin and her husband Shafiqul Islam Aranya for allegedly killing her parents and sister, said Officer-in-charge of Kadamtoli police station Jamal Uddin.
The case was filed by Masud Rana's elder brother Shakhawat Hossain.
Police have already arrested Mehjabin soon after the incident, while her husband Shafiqul Islam Aranya is being treated in police custody at Mitford Hospital in the capital, the OC said.
Police suspected that Mehzabin killed her father Masud Rana, mother Mausumi and sister Jannatul on Friday night over a family feud.

The victims had scars on their necks. Police believe they were strangled to death after being first given sleeping pills or drugs.
Police said Mehzabin called the National Emergency Service 999 after the killings on Friday night and informed the police that she had killed her parents and her sister.
She also informed the police that her husband and daughter were sleeping in bed. "I can kill them too. I can kill myself. You come early. Catch me," she said.
Pori Moni case: Omi's associates get bail
Two associates of Tuhin Siddiqui Omi, one of the accused in a case over rape and murder attempt on actor Pori Moni, have been granted bail in a case filed against them under the Passport Act.
The court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Kumar Mondal delivered the verdict granting bail to Bashir Miah and Mashiur Rahman Palash on Saturday.
A joint team of Dakkhinkhan and Savar police raided a recruiting agency belonging to Tuhin Siddiqui Omi in Dhaka's Dakkhinkhan area on the night of June 15 and recovered 102 passports from there.

Two staffers, Bashir and Palash, were also arrested during the raid.
Later, Kamal Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Savar Police Station filed a case against Omi and the two arrestees with Dakkhinkhan Police Station under the Passport Act.
Besides, the court also ordered to send three young women arrested alongside Nasir U Mahmud and Tuhin Siddiqui Omi to jail after they were produced before it after completion of their remand.

A Dhaka court on 15 June placed Nasir U Mahmud and Tuhin Siddiqui Omi on a seven-day remand each in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Three women, also accused in the case, have been remanded for three days.
Etihad Airways asked to pay Tk2 crore to two Bangladeshis for harassment
The High Court (HC) on Wednesday asked the Etihad Airways to pay Tk1 crore compensation each to a Bangladeshi woman and her daughter in a 2011 case filed over harassing them at Abu Dhabi airport.
The UAE flag carrier will have to pay the compensation to Tanzeen Bristy and her mother Nahid Sultana Juthi, a Supreme Court lawyer and also the wife of Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash.
Given the ongoing pandemic, Etihad was asked to pay the compensation in 20 equal monthly instalments after receiving the copy of the verdict.
This was an "arbitrary, unjust, and uncourteous" act of Etihad Airways which cannot be measured by fine only, the HC bench of Justice Md Ashraful Kamal and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil made the observation in the full 192-page text of the verdict.
On June 28, 2011, the mother and daughter were going to Canada on an Etihad flight. But they were harassed by the airline staff at Abu Dhabi airport and were forced back to Dhaka at their own cost.
On July 5, 2011, Bristy served a legal notice on Etihad, seeking compensation and action against the airline for their harassment.
On July 14 that year, the HC had asked the inquiry committee of the foreign ministry to submit the probe report in one month after collecting the video footage from Etihad.
On October 8 last year, the HC bench had announced its verdict following the writ petition filed by Bristy almost ten years ago.
HC orders judicial inquiry into agricultural land grabbing in Cox’s Bazar
The High Court on Tuesday ordered a judicial inquiry into how 60 acres of agricultural land were illegally grabbed from their real owners at Muhuripar of Cox’s Bazar district.
The order was passed by the HC bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah upon hearing a writ petition filed by rights organisation Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK).
The judges asked the chief judicial magistrate of Cox’s Bazar to submit the probe report of the inquiry within two months.
They also ruled status quo on the possession of the land until further order.
Besides, the HC also wanted to know why the inaction and failure of the government's defendants to prevent illegal occupation of land in Muhuripara would not be illegal.
Land Secretary, Home Secretary, Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Cox's Bazar Sadar Executive Magistrate, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer and Assistant Commissioner (Land), Sadar Police Station OC, Cox's Bazar Environment Office Assistant Director were made respondents to the rule.
Lawyers Syeda Nasrin and Md Shahinuzzaman appeared for the writ petitioner at the virtual hearing. Deputy Attorney General Nowroz Md Rasel Chowdhury represented the state.
ASK submitted the writ as a public interest litigation to the HC in March 14 of this year seeking its directives from the authorities concerned to recover the 60 acres of agricultural land from the illegal land grabbers .
Nasir, Omi placed on 7-day remand in narcotics case
A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed Nasir U Mahmud and Tuhin Siddiqui Omi on a seven-day remand each in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Three women, also accused in the case, have been remanded for three days.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jessi passed the order after Udoy Kumar Mondal, an inspector of the Detective Branch of police and the case investigation officer, produced them before the court.
Earlier in the day, the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Kamrun Naher fixed July 8 for police to submit their probe report in the case filed by actress Pori Moni accusing Nasir,Omi and four others of trying to rape and kill her.

DB police are investigating the case was filed at Savar police station on Monday.
Chargesheet filed against 2 leaders of quota movement in DU student's rape case; Nur exempted
Police submitted its chargesheet Monday against two leaders of the Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, that led the movement against quotas in government jobs, in cases filed over the alleged rape of a Dhaka University student, and under the Digital Security Act.
Based on their investigation, the police have left out four of the accused in the victim's complaint, including the movement's tallest leader, Nurul Haque Nur, who went on to be elected as Vice president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) and is now in the stages of a nascent political career.

Police found no proof of Nur's involvement in the alleged incident.
Detective Branch Inspector Md Wahiduzzaman, the Investigative Officer of the case, submitted the chargesheet with the chief metropolitan magistrate's court in Dhaka.
Police have charged Najmul Hasan Shohag, joint convener of the COSP, with rape; and Hasan Al Mamun, a former convener of COSP, under DSA.
Also exempted were a joint convener of COSP, Md Saiful Islam, vice-president of the organization Md Najmul Huda and DU student Abdullah-Hil-Baki.
On September 21, 2020, a female DU student filed a case with city’s Kotwali police station accusing VP Nur and five others of rape and abetting rape.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff had a good friendship with Mamun but at some point he started hinting his interest in an intimate relationship.
On January 3, 2020, Mamun had allegedly raped the plaintiff in his residence in Lalbagh after luring her with promises of marriage.

Later Najmul Hasan Shohag allegedly raped her on Februry 9 the same year, in a Chandpur-bound launch after promising to take her to meet Mamun, who went into hiding over the rape charges.
DSA case: Charges pressed against cartoonist Kishore, 6 others
Police on Sunday submitted a supplementary charge sheet against seven people, including cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore and Rastrachinta activist Didarul Islam Bhuiyan in a Digital Security Act (DSA) case filed on charges of spreading rumours and carrying out anti-government activities.

Five other accused are Shamiul Islam Khan alias Zulkarnain Saer Khan, former managing director of BLE securities Minhaj Mannan Emon, Netra News Editor Tasneem Khalil, Ashik Imran and Wahidun Nabi.
Afchhar Ahmed, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) sub-inspector and also the investigative officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court.
Sub Inspector Md Nizam Uddin, general recording officer of the Dhaka court, confirmed the matter to UNB.

However, Afchhar dropped the names of four others including US-based journalist Shahed Alam, Germany-based blogger Asif Mohiuddin, and some Philip Schuhmacher due to lack of enough evidence against them in the case. The name of writer Mushtaq Ahmed, the main accused in the case, has been dropped following his demise.
In February, police submitted a charge sheet against three of the accused, dropping the names of eight others.
Later, a Dhaka court ordered the DMP CTTC unit to further investigate all the 11 accused in the case.

On May 6 last year, RAB filed the case against the 11 people with Ramna police station on charges of spreading rumours and carrying out anti-government activities, under the DSA.
HC summons relevant documents to verify Khaleda’s date of birth
The High Court on Sunday summoned birth registration, educational certificate, passport and other documents regarding her date of birthday from BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
At the same time, the High Court wanted to know what information the government has in this regard.
The Foreign Secretary, the Election Commission, the Director General (DG) of the Department of Health, the Director General of the Passport Department and the Board of Secondary and Higher Education were instructed to submit the documents within the next two months.
The virtual dual bench of High Court Justice M. Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman passed the order following the hearing on a writ petition challenging the validity of Khaleda’s birthday celebration on August 15.
The court issued a rule besides giving interim directions.
The rule sought an explanation as to why the failure to take legal action against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for using different dates for her birthday, including August 15, should not be declared illegal.
Home and Health Secretaries, IG of Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner and officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station were asked to respond to the rule.
On May 31, thewrit petition was filed by Supreme Court lawyer Mamun-ur-Rashid, who is a Juba League presidium member and former general secretary of Tangail Chhatra League.
'Hash Brownies’: 3 students caught with edible cannabis products placed on 2-day remand
A Dhaka court on Thursday remanded three private university students who were arrested over seizure of ‘Hash Brownies’, an edible cannabis product that from the outside looks no different from any other chocolate cake or pastry product.
Court of Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Shahinur Rahman passed the order during a hearing after Investigation officer of the case Sub-Inspector Julhas Uddin prayed for 7-day remand after producing the accused before court.
The remanded students are Kafil Owara Rafid from American International University of Bangladesh, Kazi Risalat Hossain from Advanced Professionals in Dhanmondi and Saiful Islam Saif from University of Development Alternative.
From the defendant’s side advocate Samia Ara Mina and Abu Sayem appealed for bail and cancellation of remand while the states side opposed.
After hearing both sides the court passed the order.
On Wednesday night, a team of DB police arrested the students from the city's Mohammadpur and Paltan area and a case was filed in this connection with the Mohammadpur police station.
According to DB, they were tipped off about a cake laced with Marijuana being peddled by syndicates in the city. Police arrested Rafid and Saif from Shahjahan road in Mohammadpur during a raid.
Eighteen pieces of Hash Brownies were seized from them, said police.
Later, following their information police arrested Risalat with twelve pieces of cake from an apartment in the city's Paltan area.
With cannabis incorporated in the ingredients, these edibles are a potent way of getting 'high' without smoking.
HC issues rule on bail for staff arrested over PMO doc forgery
The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule seeking explanation on why Fatema Khatun, a staffer suspended over a case of document forgery in the Prime Minister’s Office, should not get bail.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir issued the rule during a hearing on the defendant’s bail petition.
Advocate Momatajuddin Ahmed represented the defendant during the hearing.
Defendant’s advocate prayed for bail mentioning Fatema Khatun’s health condition worsening after staying a year in jail.
The High Court disagreed to grant bail to Fatema for bringing disrepute to PMO’s image and rather agreed to issue a rule.

On May 5, 2020, PM office director-7 Md. Rafiqul Alam filed a case against three individuals.
Later police submitted charge sheet of the case accusing six people including Fatema Khatun and Chhatra League central committee leader Tariqul Islam.
Others accused in the case are Nazim Uddin, Rubel, Farhad Hossain, a student of North South University, and former treasurer of Bangladesh University of Professionals , retired air commodore M Abdus Salam Azad.
The accused were working to have Abdus Salam Azad appointed to the post of treasurer of North South University.
According to the charge sheet, the names of the chairman of history department of NSU Professor M Enamul Haque, Professor of architecture department of BUET Md Abdur Rauf, and M Abdus Salam Azad were put forward in an Education Ministry document, from which one was to be chosen for the post of NSU treasurer by the PM.

Working as the office assistant at PMO, Fatema got the document in hand after the PM made her choice and disclosed the confidential information that Abdus Salam had not been chosen to BCL leader Tariqul.
On March 1, the same year Fatema handed over the document to accused Farhad for Tk 20,000.
Later, the accused tampered with the document to showing M Abdus Salam Azad approved for the post, and had it sent to the president’s office from the PMO for final approval, said the charge sheet.
