Mentioning that the Delhi riot rook place as India deviated from secularism to communalism, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said it will affect the regional peace, fraternity and cooperation.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters after attending the funeral of Satyapriya Mohathero, one of the prominent Buddhist leaders and principal of Ramu Sima Bihar.
Satyapriya Mohathero passed away at a hospital in the capital on October 4 at the age of 89. He will be cremated on Saturday as per the religious rituals after his mortal remains were preserved for 148 days.
Fakhrul expressed the hope that the Indian government will resolve the problem together with its people and political parties keeping motto of secularism intact.
He also hoped that India will address the issue of NRC considering the interests of its own nationals.
The BNP leader also expressed his resentment at rejection of their party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail petition.
A BNP delegation, led by Fakhrul, joined the funeral of Satyapriya on the second day.
They paid their tributes to him by placing a wreath at the coffin.
