The Treasury in a statement accused the blacklisted persons of threatening the peace, security, or stability of the West African country or obstructing humanitarian assistance.
Following the designation, all property and interests in property of the designated individuals that are subject to U.S. jurisdiction will be blocked, and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with them.
The latest action was taken concurrently with the designation of these five individuals by the UN Security Council Mali Sanctions Committee, the statement added.
Since 2015, Mali has suffered a spate of terrorist attacks that have killed more than 500 people and displaced more than 450,000 others. An unprecedented humanitarian crisis sparked by escalating violence and insecurity is underway in Mali, and 3.9 million people currently need aid, a UN spokesman said last week.
