“BNP activists are attacking our processions, assaulting our supporters and setting fire to offices of other democratic parties and Awami League allies,” HT Imam, co-chairman of AL’s Election Steering Committee, claimed at a media briefing at the party chief’s Dhanmondi political office.
“Five AL leaders have been killed and more than 250 others were injured in attacks by BNP-Jamaat activists. Hundreds of election offices have been vandalised,” he said, accusing BNP of filing “false allegations” with the Election Commission against AL.
Imam claimed that there had been a “big attack” on Asaduzzaman Noor. “We are getting such reports daily,” he said. “[BNP-Jamaat activists launched] attacks and opened fire in 24 places and torched 11 vehicles. They also attacked two police vehicles.”
‘Attacks on minorities’
The prime minister's political adviser also accused the BNP-Jamaat alliance of attacking the minorities.
“We are receiving reports about attacks on minorities from different parts of the country. Fear is spreading among these communities,” he claimed.
“The BNP-Jamaat alliance has again chosen the path of violence against minorities like it did in 2001,” he added.
