The Bangladesh side briefed the Latvian side about the crisis Bangladesh is facing with the displaced Rohingya populations and sought the co-operation from the Latvian government in this regard.
The two sides also underlined the need of business to business contact between the two countries.
The issues came up for discussion at the first Foreign Office Consultations (FCO) between the Foreign Ministries of Bangladesh and Latvia held in Riga, the capital of Latvia recently, said the Foreign Ministry here on Thursday.
Secretary (Bilateral & Consular), Foreign Ministry here Ambassador KamrulAhsan led the Bangladesh side while Under-Secretary of State, Political Director General, Janis Mazeiks led Latvian side in the FOC. Bangladesh Ambassador to Russia Dr SM Saiful Hoque was also present.
The Bangladesh head of delegation underscored the need of exchange of bilateral high level and official visits.
He also mentioned the need of conclusion of agreements and arrangement of Foreign Office consultations to institutionalize the cooperation.
The Latvian Under-Secretary of State expressed their willingness to enhance cooperation with Bangladesh by means of further engagement and conclusion of bilateral agreements and MoUs, which are being discussed by both sides.
Bangladesh and Latvia discussed the potential sectors where both countries can establish cooperation and be engaged in business.
The two sides also discussed appointment of Honorary Consuls to enhance the cooperation.
The Latvian Under-Secretary of State mentioned the growth trajectory that Bangladesh is going through. He also commended the role of Bangladesh Peace Keepers at the UN Missions.
