Chandpur, June 13 (UNB)— The body of a Cumilla college student was recovered from the Meghna River a day after he had gone missing.
Rashedul Islam Rafid was washed away by a strong current on Wednesday from near the shore of a newly-formed river island, locally known as ‘Mini Cox’s Bazar’.
A joint rescue team of river police and fire service recovered his body around 9:15am.
Rafid, a second-year student of Comilla Model College, was the son of forest officer Rafiqul Islam, a resident of the town.
He had gone to ‘Balu Char’ from Cumilla with seven of his friends.
Rafid and his friends were washed away by strong currents when they were playing in waist deep water, Rafid's friend Rubayet Sabab said. The others managed to swim to the shore but Rafid remained missing.
His body was recovered from near the accident spot.
