They also said the corruption has spread in every sector. That a looting spree continues in the country. And that a mass movement is a must if the government fails to arrest them.
It came up with at a human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club under the banner of Bam Ganatantrik Jote or Left Democratic Alliance in the capital.
The leaders from Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Biplobi Workers Party, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD), Bangladesh United Communist League (BUCL), and others took part in the programme.
BUCL presidium member Prof Abdus Sattar said, “You (general people) can’t imagine how corruption and looting continue in the country now, when a pillow price raised to Tk27,720 and hand gloves Tk35,000 against market price of Tk20.”
“Police and ministers knew about casino business in Dhaka. Some employees of administration were on the payroll of these illegal businesses. The government can’t stop the wrongdoing because the government assumed power illegally looting votes at night,” he also said.
He said that Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani organised Farakka Long March to draw attention to desertification of Bangladesh.
“India does not understand anything other than own interests. So all people have to be united to save Bangladesh,” he also said.
Due to the unusual increase in onion price in market, Bazlur Rashid Firoz, central committee member of Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD), demanded resignation of commerce minister Tipu Munshi.
“Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is giving license of corruption. DIG Mizan’s incident proved it. Big fish must be arrested. When ruling party member is arrested, it’s called BNP-Jamaat leader. It’s a bad practice here,” he also said.
Demanding the scrapping of the Public Service Act-2018, Bazlur said that the indemnity act is contradictory to the constitution, will cause a rise in corruption, and delay necessary steps against government officials even after their misdeeds are visible.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is visiting India. We hope she voices all demands strongly instead of in a puny voice,” he added.
CPD leader Shah Alam called upon all walks of life to be united for movement to eliminate corruption from the country.
“We have to stand up and raise voice against any looting and corruption,” he also said.
