Taking part in general discussion on the proposed budget, he said the trial process of the sensation cases in lower courts is completing fast.
“But we aren’t getting the final results, we can’t execute verdicts, people want to see the implementation of verdicts quickly, we’re having our verdicts at lower courts successfully, but those get stuck at the Appellate Division, we can’t say we’ve got our judgments through getting the verdicts from lower courts,” he said.
Qamrul mentioned some much-talked-about cases of the country in recent times, including seven-murder case in Narayanganj, Rajon murder case in Sylhet and Biswajit murder case.
Regarding Nusrat murder, the former minister said the trial and recording of witness statements is going on, and considering the pace of trial it can be said the verdict will be come out within next two-three months. “Hope, the highest punishment will be given,” he said.
He also said there is no need to amend the existing laws. In this connection, he advised the attorney general’s office to quickly finish the paper works of the related cases.
“Please take necessary steps to dispose of the appeal (at Appellate Division), through which we will be able to fulfill the demand of mass people,” he said.
Talking about the killing of Rifat in Barguna, Kamrul Islam said the law-and-order situation is good, but there are degradations in social values.
“Brutalities have increased… Rifat murder took place a couple of days ago, it went viral in social media…those who made it viral did not came forward to save Rifat, the trial of such incidents should be ended at the quickest possible time,” he said.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen proposed expanding tax net further and suggested making it mandatory for all NID holders to submit their income tax return. “With this, the number of income taxpayers will increase gradually,” the minister said.
