“Create employment for persons with disability instead of making them dependent on allowance and incorporate them into the mainstream society through giving them technical education,” Secretary General of NFOWD Salina Akhter said at a press conference organised by NFOWD at the Jatiya Press Club.
Salina Akhter said that there is no exact statistics of people with disability in the country and so ‘disabled identification survey programmee’ should be launched.
“Their exact number, age, educational qualifications and other issues are needed for formulating a policy for their development and improvement of their living standard.”
Salina appreciated the government’s initiative of 10 percent tax rebate to create employment for disabled persons.
Md Nurul Islam, Director of Society for the Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled, Bangladesh , said, “We want to serve disabled persons. So we need financial support to work properly here. We will build more education institutions here for them if we get more fund from the government,” he also said.
