Dhaka, Jan 24 (UNB) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday provided financial assistance to six persons and families, including ailing folk singer Syed Golam Ambia and former volleyball player Upendra Narayan Paal (Nikhil Paal).
She handed over cheques for a total Tk 1.26 crore to them at a function at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Syed Golam Ambia, also a music director of Bangladesh Television, was given Tk 25 lakh for his cancer treatement, while ailing Nikhil Paal Tk 30 lakh for meeting his medical treatment and family expenditures.
The family of a Jubo League activist, Jahirul Hasan, who was killed in a gun attack by Jamaat-Shibir, was provided with the financial assistance of Tk 10 lakh.
Jahirul's wife Zannatul Ferdous received the cheque of the money for bearing the family expenditures.
Besides, the Prime Minister provided a total of Tk 61 lakh as donation to three other people for their medical treatment.
