“Awami League extended its support to our candidate Saad Ershad. Everybody here knew Jatiya Party would win. Voters were not interested in the election since the boat and plough were on the same page. That’s why it was not a competitive election,” he said.
GM Quader came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at his late brother HM Ershad’s Polli Nibash.
Describing Rangpur as a stronghold of Jatiya party, he said the people of the area always supported their party and they still do. “It has been manifested through the by-polls,”
Jatiya Party's Rahgir Al Mahi alias Saad Ershad was unofficially elected in the Rangpur-3 by-polls on Saturday. The constituency fell vacant following the death of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on July 14.
About the ongoing anti-corruption purge, GM Quader said their party’s position is always against corruption. “We’ll help the government in this regard.”
As Quader reached Polli Nibash, MP-elect Saad Ershad greeted him with a bouquet.
“I would like to work with all in Rangpur. My plan is to take Rangpur forward in consultation with our party chairman, the leader of the opposition and the Prime Minister,” said Saad.
He said he wants to complete the unfinished tasks of his father HM Ershad.
