Khulna, Aug 9 (UNB)- Hundreds of shrimp farms and several villages were flooded after a sluicegate was damaged on early Friday at Khalia Parishamari in Paikgachha upazila.
Locals and shrimp farm owners blamed the sub-lease holders of the marsh land, who were tasked with protecting the sluicegate. But the sub-lease holders said the sluicegate closet was broken due to huge tidal wave at night.
Paritosh Kumar Mondol, former UP member, said an increased water pressure after heavy rain and tidal waves broke the closet of sluicegate.
But shrimp farm owner Nripen Molla claimed that the breach was a pre-planned act by people who took the marsh land on sub-lease from Monayem Gazi of Koyra upzila.
Julia Sukayana, Paikgachha Upazila Nirbahi Officer, said the administration will take steps against the responsible persons after an investigation.
