The two sisters, Mehnaz and Shahnaz, were being brought to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) from Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
They were the daughters of Mosharraf Khalashi of village Thakur Dangi of Dheukhali union under Sadarpur upazila.
‘Chowkider’ of the area M Shahjahan informed that Mosharraf Khalashi is engaged in chemical-trading business. He used to store flammable items on the first floor of the three-storied building, where he also lived with his family.
On Sunday afternoon, according to Shahjahan, Mosharraf Khalashi sprayed insecticide to protect his food items from insects.
The family members later went to bed after having dinner, but Mosharraf’s wife and three children fell sick. They were brought to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and later the attending physicians referred them to DMCH.
Unfortunately, Mehenaz passed away overnight when the ambulance carrying them had reached only Daulatdia in Rajbari, while Shahnaz breathed her last as they were crossing Manikganj, on their way to the capital.
Confirming the incident, Sadarpur UNO Pubri Goldal said the presumption is that the four fell sick from the insecticide mixing with the food they had for dinner.
Omar Faruk, Chairman of Dheukhali Union Parishad, said that the two children were buried at the family graveyard after their namaj-e-janaza was held post-Zohr prayers on Monday.
