Dhaka, July 11 (UNB) -The World Population Day is being observed in Bangladesh as elsewhere in the globe on Thursday to spread awareness and discuss issues related to population growth.
In 1989, the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme recommended that July 11 be observed by the international community as World Population Day, a day to focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issues.
This year's World Population Day calls for global attention to the unfinished business of the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development.
Different organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day across the country.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion.
