Leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies observed the 49th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Goplaganj and Faridpur districts.
UNB Goplaganj correspondent reports: On the occasion of the day, party and black flags along with the national flag were hoisted at Gopalganj district Awami office at 7 am.
At 7:20am, party leaders paid tribute to the portrait of Bangabandhu by placing wreaths.
Apart from Gopalganj, Awami League activists and supporters from neighboring districts started coming to Tungipara in the morning.
At around 11 am, AL activists led by District Awami League President Mahabub Ali Khan and General Secretary GM Shahabuddin Azam paid their respect at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Despite the absence of Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana, the leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliates widely celebrated the day without any hindrance.
Meanwhile, leaders and activists of Awami League celebrated the day with due fervor in Faridpur.
At 11:30 am, the leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies hoisted the national and black flags at half-mast at the party office on Bowlmari Thana Road.
Earlier, wreaths were placed on the portrait of Bangabandhu.
On this day in 1975, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members were assassinated by a cabal of military men.
