He made the call while addressing a discussion on “how to prevent drug terrorism, child abuse, eve-teasing, child marriage and misuse of mobile internet” organised by Bangladesh Retired Police Officers’ Welfare Association at Mirpur Police Staff College.
The home minister questioned why juveniles are seen outside for long at night instead of their reading tables.
Issuing a warning, he said if any teenager commits any crime, he would be prosecuted under the juvenile law. “There’ll be no excuse.”
Asaduzzaman said everyone in society, including law enforcement agencies, is concerned over the involvement of adolescents in various criminal activities being associated with 'juvenile gangs'.
He said parents must be aware first and come forward in this regard. “They must ensure that they (children) don’t go outside leaving the reading tables after dusk.”
About eve-teasing, the home minister said the government has been working since it assumed office in 2009 to curb the menace. “We’ve been able to reduce the incidents of eve-teasing, but we need to reduce it further. Our law enforcement agencies and parents are working to this end. Governing bodies of schools and colleges should do more in this regard,” he added.
