The Aviation and Tourism Journalists' Forum of Bangladesh (ATJFB) has honoured ten women with the ATJFB Aviator Women's Icon Award for their contributions to Bangladesh's aviation industry.
ATJFB, an association of aviation and tourism journalists, organised the award ceremony at the Samson H Chowdhury Auditorium of Dhaka Club on Thursday.
Farida Akhter, adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, and Nasrin Jahan, secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, presented the awards to the winners.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines recognised several of its staff members for their outstanding contributions.
First Officer Fariha Tabassum won the award in the Pilot category, while Engineering Officer Tahmina Akhter received recognition in the Aeronautical Engineer category. Manager of Ground Service Nilufa Yasmin earned the award in the Aviation Ground Service category, and Flight Steward Jinia Islam received the honour in the Cabin Crew category.
ATJFB also recognised notable individuals from other sectors.
Nadia Farzana, Additional Superintendent of Police at Tourist Police, received the award in the Tourism Security category. Sabera Sarwar Nina, Chairperson of Hotel Sarina, won in the Hotel Entrepreneur category, while Sabira Mehreen Saba, Founder and CEO of Wonder Women, earned recognition in the Tourism Entrepreneur category. Wamia Walid, Head of Business Development and Corporate Affairs at Galaxy Bangladesh, received the award in the Promising Entrepreneur category.
Rita Nahar, Joint Editor of Boishakhi TV, won in the Journalism category, while Nazmun Nahar, the first Bangladeshi to carry the national flag to 178 countries, received the award in the Travel category.
Speaking as the chief guest, Adviser Farida said ATJFB’s initiative will open new opportunities for women.
“The ten women I saw today have already established themselves in their respective fields, and now they will inspire and encourage other women in society,” she added.
Nasrin Jahan, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, praised the initiative. “ATJFB’s effort is commendable. Such initiatives will drive women towards even greater success in the future,” she said.
