Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has said he and his fellow advisers don't need, nor are they looking for, any “safe exit”.
Rather the nation, he said, as a nation as a whole needs a safe exit from a decades-long cycle of misgovernance, extrajudicial killings, and institutional failure.
The adviser made the remarks while inaugurating a national consultation on the draft National Human Rights Commission Ordinance, 2025 at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka on Saturday.
Dr Nazrul highlighted the need to strengthen key institutions, including the judiciary, parliamentary committees, and the National Human Rights Commission, to ensure accountability and protect citizens’ rights.
The consultation, organised by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law with UNDP support, included discussions in four sessions on the draft ordinance, with participants from the government, academia, diplomatic missions, and human rights organisations.
