In this era of globalisation, national development is not possible without the advancement of technology and engineering knowledge, Member Secretary of the “Bangladesh Sommilito Peshajibi Porishod” Kader Gani Chowdhury said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a discussion marking the 77th founding anniversary of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), Chattogram Centre, Chowdhury emphasised the pivotal role engineers must play in building a sustainable and humane Bangladesh.
He said that the modern world is driven by science and technology.
There is no area of society untouched by technological advancements,” he said, adding, Every day, new technological innovations are being added, all aimed at solving problems.”
Highlighting the significance and dignity of the engineering profession, he quoted American engineer Nathan W. Dougherty, saying, “Engineering is not merely science, mathematics, or sociology. Engineers solve problems by integrating all forms of knowledge.”
He also praised engineers for their consistent contributions to civilisation through creativity and innovation.
Presided over by Manjeri Khurshid Alam, the event was also attended by Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain, engineer Nurul Karim, professor Mozammel Haque, engineer Rafiqul Islam, engineer Sakhawat Hossain, engineer Jane Alam Selim, and journalist Shah Nawaz, among others.
