The Ministry of Education on Sunday decided to keep all English-medium schools across the country closed from Monday until the end of the government-declared Ramadan and Eid holidays.
The decision was taken at a meeting on formulating policies for English-medium schools and coaching centres held at the conference room of the Secondary and Higher Education Division.
The meeting was chaired by Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.
During the meeting, discussions were held with representatives of English-medium schools operating under foreign curricula, considering the sufferings of city dwellers during the holy month of Ramadan, particularly in Dhaka and other major cities, as well as the prevailing global situation.
The institutions will be allowed to hold only mandatory examinations during this period in accordance with their previously scheduled timetables.
The meeting also decided that all activities of coaching centres whether for Bangla-medium or English-medium students will remain suspended during the same period.
Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division Abdul Khaleque and other relevant officials were present at the meeting.
