Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC has been honoured with the 'Gold Award' by the Centre for Non-Resident Bangladeshi (NRB) in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the country's remittance sector
The award was presented during the ‘Branding Bangladesh’ summit organised by the Centre for NRB at a city hotel on April 12, according to a press release.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon handed over the award as the chief guest. Dr M Kamal Uddin Jasim, Additional Managing Director, and Md Rafiqul Islam, Deputy Managing Director of Islami Bank, received the crest on behalf of the bank.
The event was presided over by MS Shekil Chowdhury, Chairperson of the Centre for NRB. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque attended the event as special guests.
Speakers at the programme highlighted the critical role of institutional excellence in attracting formal remittance, noting that such recognition encourages banks to further simplify the money-transfer process for expatriates.
Major General (retd) Fazle Elahi Akbar, Chairman of the Foundation for Strategic and Development Studies, along with senior executives from various financial and corporate organisations, was also present at the ceremony.
Islami Bank remains a market leader in Bangladesh's remittance landscape, consistently accounting for a significant share of the total foreign currency sent by Bangladeshi expatriates living in different countries through legal channels.
